Q1: Como eu faço para usar as lyrics?

Q2: Can the s1mp3 can recharge the battery while it is connected to pc??

If you player has an internal recharcheable battery, it will include a special internal circuit to do that.

If your player does not have this circuit, you best recharge your batteries on proper chargers to avoid acidents. However, there is a wiki article that explains how to make a simple circuit to drive power to the battteries.

Q3: O meu player está com um pouco menos de memória disponível do que ele diz ter. Porque ?

Isso é normal e acontece com todos os S1 Mp3 players. Parece que firmware reserva uma "pequena" (mais ou menos 20MB) porção da memória FLASH para gravar as informações do sistema.

Q4: O player está com menos memória que o normal, e/ou reinicia mostrando "format error" ou "disk error" quando eu tento colocar mais do que 128/256/512/etc MB

O que você pode fazer é formatar o player utilizando a ferramenta que vem com a ultima versão do "MP3 Player Utilities", disponível em Mp3 player update tool. Faça uma formatação completa e não configure nenhum drive encriptado.

Se isto não ajudar, tente o "disk management", alcançado através do "Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> computer management". Clique com o botão direito na partição do mp3 player, escolha "format". Use "FAT" ou "FAT16" (E NÃO FAT32!)

Esse é um problema conhecido, e na maioria dos casos, é causado por uma formatação falsa no player, fazendo-o exibir mais memória do que o chip de memória comporta.

Se a formatação não ajudar, você deverá checar se o chip de memória dentro do player tem a mesma capacidade que o player diz ter.(Veja Abra o s1mp3 e Samsung K9W8G08U1M[FLASH MEM])

Q5: Olá, o meu mp3 está "travando" um botão. Há algo que possa ser feito?

Primeiramente, abra o seu mp3 player e verifique se tem alguma coisa travando os botões/alavanca. Depois, observe se ha algum mal contato ou sujeira que possa causar curto. Se estiver tudo certo, é um problema com o componente eletrônico, tente mandá-lo para alguma loja de reparos eletrônicos, talvez o técnico possa trocar o componente.

Q6: Existe algum update para o firmware do meu player?

Primeiramente: se o seu mp3 player funciona, mantenha-o assim;não troque o firmware!!

"Updates" não existem para o s1 mp3 player (o normal), existe um bando de versões diferentes do mesmo firmware. Mas cada uma das versões diferentes funciona apenas com um grupo específico de players. Se você colocar um firmware que não é o adequado para a sua placa, o seu player morre!

Q8: As cores do LED ficam mudando toda vez que eu aperto um botão! É irritante para mim, como faço para parar isso?

No menu "System", tem uma opção chamada "backlight mode". Você pode mudar o comportamento das cores lá.

Q9: Meu player aparece como "ADFU server" e eu não consigo acessá-lo através do windows...

Isso significa que o seu player está em modo de recuperação. Agora, você deve esclher um firmware e gravar no seu player. Veja Encontre o firmware apropriado para o seu mp3 player.

Q10: Meu mp3 player está protegido contra gravação! O que eu faço?

O player tem uma pequena switch chamada "hold". É so virar a chavinha que o player alterna entre protegido/desprotegido contra gravação.

Q11: Eu não consigo usar a função "telbook"(agenda)!

Você precisa fazer o download do programa Telbook.exe apropriado. Ele lhe permite gerar um arquivo "telbook.bin" com os seus contatos. Copie este arquivo para a raiz do mp3 player e no menu telbook(do mp3 player), é necessário fazer o "import" do arquivo para que o player mostre os contatos. Até agora, descobrimos três versões diferentes de telbook.exe, que não geram o mesmo padrão de telbook.bin. Você deverá testar as versões para encontrar a apropriada para o seu player. Q12: Eu não consigo tocar todas as músicas que eu coloco no meu player (apenas as 99),o que eu posso fazer?

O máximo número de músicas por pasta que o firmaware permite é 99. Se Você tiver mais do que isso em uma pasta, o firmware simplesmente ignora as ultimas músicas. O firmware também não consegue ver pastas dentro de pastas. Ex: músicas em C:\folder1\ podem ser tocadas (até a 99, claro). Mas os arquivos em C:\folder1\folder2 não.

Q15: What is the difference between actions s1mp3 players (with atj2085 or atj 2075), and the sigmatel STMP35xx?

Not very much, in the way that they both play music. Sigmatel claims that the atj2075 and 2085 are copies of their SMTP25xx series, and has even filed a lawsuit against them! Apart from the different looks, they have totally incompatible firmwares, and (some of) the sigmatel players have a slot for an extra Secure Digital flashcard. (note: this project is about the s1mp3 player, NOT the sigmatel ones ;) )

Q16: When playing songs (sometimes/always) there is a low "buzzing" sound in the background of the song.

This has only one explanation: interference. The s1mp3 player is quite cheap hardware, so it is not shielded from interference very well. In fact, it even creates it's own interference. In some hardware versions, severeral of the memory data lines run along the audio lines, so everytime the memory is read or written, there will be interference from the memory with the audio.

This also explains the absence of interference during radio playback (as reported sometimes): the memory isn't really used then, so there is no interference.

There is, althought, a way to fix that problem , it appears to be due to a decoupling tantalum capacitor not being big enough. The capacitor is on the battery side of the board and is between the hold switch and the -ve volume button. I found that soldering another surface mount 68uF tantalum across it fixed the burbling noise on memory playback. try holding a largeish (220uF) electrolytic against this capacitor's leads to see if it cures the problem , itmay cause reboots due to static/whatever, but when it doesnt cause a reboot it may/should reduce the noise, if it does then try soldering in a permanent fix.

Q17: My player can't find any FM station.

The player uses the earphones cord as an antenna. Try to hold it stretched as much as you can for better reception. Sometimes, the radio signal is just not strong enough. There can also be a strong signal from a local radio station "blocking" any other stations in the area, even if normal radios receptors are working normally.

Q18: Can I change the recording date?

Yes. There is an opntion on system menu that let you change the system time. Note that eveytime the player is disconnected from a power source (you change the batteries) the time will reset.

Q19: How can I have a full screen 200x200 video for my 1.5'' mp4 player?

Use the latest encoding tool, and inform it to use the 200x200 resolution. If you s1mp3 still clips the video while playing it, your current firmware does not support full screen mode.

Q20: What type is my player ?

Remember, for the right firmware, you'll have to open your player and take note of the board ID number. Just categorization won't help. You can check out all the known S1mp3 types here.

Q21: Can I replace the internal rechargeable battery?

Of course! But make sure to check the voltage, use the same voltage your older battery has!

Q22: Help! My S1mp3 can't show the music inside my subfolders!

The S1mp3 does not support subfolders. Read the

Q23: My player works with batteries but not when connected to the USB port, why?

First, check the cables, eliminate then, if possible. Then, test the USB port with other USB devices, maybe the problem is at the motherboard side.

If cabes and mobo are ok, probably there is something wrong with the USB conector on the S1mp3. Open it and check for dust, clean it, check the solders on the USB connectors.

If all these tips does not work at all, probably your ATJ2085 chip is phisycally damaged.

Q24: I get a "Hard Error" when trying to enter the FM application.

If you get a "hard error", that's because your S1mp3 does not have the FM chip, or the connection between the the FM chip is broken, or you have a radio chip that is not supported by your firmware. Have your S1mp3 changed or fixed.

Q25: Does the S1 MP3 Player support Digital Rights Management? I can't download music I've bought because the licence won't copy onto the player.

No, It does not. DMR is to be supported on the next generations of the s1mp3-type player.

Q26: My player keeps "restarting" similar to the static electricity problem but i have completely isolated the player from static according to the instructions. It happens every time I get to a specific track as if it won't play any further.

Q27: How can you work out your model name of my s1mp3 ?

Most S1mp3 come as unbranded and even the ones that have a model name on the case aren't uniquely identified by this information. The only reliable information to identify a player is the board ID.

Q28: The "scan" function of my FM radio does not work or is disabled.

There are some FM chips that does not support the scan mode. There doesn't seen like there is much that can be done to overcome this issue.

Q1: MEU MP3/MP4 PLAYER NÃO FUNCIONA MAIS!!! ME AJUDE!!!

Se acalme, respire fundo ... Leia o Guia de recuperação com atenção. Depois, tente executá-lo. É um procedimento padrão que funcionou com quase todo mundo. Boa sorte e você pode contar conosco nos foruns (ingles apenas).

Q2: O visor LCD do meu mp3 player foi danificado(ex. rechadura). Como posso trocar o LCD?

Não conheço nenhuma loja onde vendem esse componente específico, acho que o melhor que voce pode fazer é levá-lo a uma oficina de reparos eletronicos e torcer. Caso haja um player idêntico quebrado, pode ser feita a troca. Se voce souber de alguma outra informação, por favor entre em contato!

Q3: O meu player só funciona plugado no computador. Ele não liga com bateria. O que pode ser?

Primeiramente, verifique se as pilhas estão carregadas. Depois, voce deve abrir o seu player e conferir se os contatos da bateria estão bem soldados/sem curto. Se estiver tudo certo, verifique se tem alguma coisa causando curto no player. Limpe-o e tente ligar de novo. Se não resolver, provavelmente é um player defeituoso - retorne-o ao vendedor.

Q4: Minha placa não tem nada escrito! O que devo fazer?

Você tem que procurar melhor. Ela pode estar impressa em uma fonte bem pequena, em qualquer um dos lados das duas placas. Pode estar escondido atrás do cabo do LCD. Ou atrás do adesivo plástico perto de onde fica a pilha.

Lembre-se, qualquer coisa branca impressa na placa pode ser considerado o .

Até agora, houveram raros casos de players sem nada escrito. Após procurar um pouco, todos acharam.

Q5: Onde eu acho um firmware para o meu player XXXXX ?

Se voce realmente precisa de um firmware para recuperar o seu player morto, veja Encontre o firmware apropriado para o seu mp3 player

Q6: What does "Unknown flash type" or "flash not responding"means?

In a practical way, it means that your update program does not support your mp3 player, or the mp3 player may be running on a wrong firmware routine. To solve it, you can either change your update program or put the player in recovery mode. See the for further info.

Q7: I can't get the PC to recognize it, no matter what!

Please, try the procedure described in .

Q8: My player only works connected to the USB port.

This shall be a hardware fault. Open the player and seek for bad solders.

Q9: I formatted my player, and now it doesn't work anymore, what do I do?

You probably formatted your player with the "FAT32" filesystem. the S1mp3 player uses the "FAT16" filesystem, and MOST players don't understand FAT32. (some can) You can fix your player by simply reformatting it, but this time select "FAT16" in the filesystem box. Note: "FAT16" is also known as "FAT"

Q10: My s1mp3 can't work using power from batteries, but works using power from USB.

Make sure you are using a fully charged battery.

Manually wire the battery to the terminals on the s1mp3, to make sure they have contact.

If it still does not work, you should open up the player and see if any of the battery pin is loose/broken/shorting. Clean both contacts, and check if there are any other thing on the player that may be causing the short.

If this does not help, then it's very likely that this is a hardware fault on the DC-DC convertor - get the player replaced with the seller.

Q11: Meu computador não ta reconhecendo o mp3, o que faço?

Q13: I get a "device write protected, please remove write protection" when I start the FW upgrade program.

Flip the hold swith! :) It is also possible that, because of a wrong firmware update, the button mapping has gone crazy, and your hold switch has traded places with other buttons. To overcome this, simply push ALL the buttons while you plug in the player, that way you are always "flipping" the "hold switch" (where-ever it has hidden itself) If still doesn't work, follow the

Você pode ir em qualuer joalheria e pedir/mandar fazer um vidro de verdade para o seu s1mp3.

Q15: O mp3 player desliga sozinho o tempo todo (aparece "starting"). O que fazer?

Seu player provavelmente sofre de choques estáticos com a 'carcaça' de metal. Siga os guias para abrir o player e isolá-lo da parte metálica da carcaça.

Q16: When I copy mp3 format music files the player says there is a format problem in the file so unable to playing it.

Re-encode the problematic music files using LAME. If the device also reestarts, it could be the memory issue, check the FAQ for that too.

Q17: The player X looks like the player Y, can I use Y's firmware dump on X ?

Only if you know that the Board ID for both players is the same. The external (brand, looklike, firmware version) say nothing about the player internal hardware.

3. Modificando o firmwareback to top

Q1: Como altero o tipo de bateria de 1,5 Volts para 1,2 volts - recarregável ?

Para isso, pode ser utilizado o programa "Fw modifyer", disponível em Fw modifyer. Dumpe o seu firmware com o s1fwx(Fw modifyer)(não se esqueça do "F" maiusculo!), modifique-o e grave no player. Caso o player não aceite o firmware modificado, voce vai ter que "matar" o player com um firmware desconhecido para somente então flashar o firmware modificdo. E isso pode ser um processo trabalhoso, que nem sempre compensa - o único efeito da mudança 1.2V-1.5V parece ser sobre o indicador de bateria.

Q2: My player only has one color backlight, can I upgrade my firmware to get more colors?

No, you can't. The multi-color players have three different backlight LED. These are colored Red, Green and Blue. The different colors are made by combining the LED's in different ways (EG: Red+Blue gives Pink/Purple).

The one-color players only have one backlight LED, so they cannot combine colors.

The LED's are inside the A Placa do LCD. If you don't have the LEDs (the multi-color devices have tree of them, while the single-color players only have one) on your hardware, there is no way to add them!

Q3: Meu mp3 player não tem a função X. Posso atualizar o software para tentar torná-la disponível?

Não vale a pena trocar o firmware apenas para obter uma nova funçao. Mas se você quiser mesmo assim tentar, faça os procedimentos para encontrar o firmware correto em Guia de recuperação

Q4: Eu posso modificar os presets de equalização para uma curva de resposta diferente?

Isso pode ser possível de algum modo, mas nós ainda não temos a menor idéia de como faze-lo. Se você tiver informação a respeito, por favor, mande email!

Q5: Existe alguma forma de mudar o texto/imagens incluidas no firmware?

Sim! Com o s1fwx, voce pode "dumpar" o firmware e você pode usar o s1res para mudar o texto/imgens do player, até mesmo para MP4 players. Veja Ferramentas.

Q6: Does the s1mp3 player support playlists? Maybe by firmware update?

Unfortunately, no. The s1mp3 player does not support playlists, not even with firmware upgrades. Remember, it is still cheap chinese import, no high tech iPod nano.

Q7: Como eu coloco a função de rádio FM no meu player?

Se o seu player não tem o chip de rádio soldado, é impossível utilizar a função FM. Mas, se o seu player já teve essa função e você a perdeu durante troca de firmware, é possível "habilitar" a função FM em um firmware utilizando o FW modifier(veja Ferramentas).

.z7 is the extension for 7-zip.

7-zip is one of the most powerfull compressing programs you'll find, and, best of all: It's open source.

If you want to use something else:
winrar also extracts 7-zip.

Q9: How can I change my mp4's interfrace with cool backgrounds?

For that, you'll have to extract your player's firmware with s1fwx. then you can unleash the awesome power of s1res on your extracted firmware.
S1res allows you to change ANY part of a firmware, including menu pictures.
Where all the pictures are hidden changes from firmware to firmware, so you'll have to look for yourself (but UI30.res is always a good place to start)
WARNING: ALWAYS keep an UNMODIFIED, UNCHANGED backup of your extracted firmware, just in case something goes wrong. (And, remembering Murphy's law: it _will_ go wrong)
