i think that it doesn't work because when i try to read back data from the 
  lcd, i get garabage.
  The interesting thing is that it is not complete garbage, it's somehow related
  with wath's in the memory, but i still don't understand...
  when the memory is full with 0xFF i get back lots of 0x00-s and then 
  lots of 0xFC-s
