Hi,
my name is Rembrand van Lakwijk and I've been around for quite some time
now on this mailinglist, so it seemed like a good idea to introduce
myself properly and become an official member of this project. I really
like the idea of programming custom firmware for these players because
they're so widespread and their firmware is so crappy it irritates the
hell out of me every day. And even if we don't complete the project it's
always a good learning experience - I've got absolutely nothing to do
this summer. I have two S1mp3 players - one is a 1GB one from Lenco
which basically looks like a solid, square block, the other one is 256MB
and has the classic s1mp3 design that's also on the main s1 site. Both
have normal LCD's with multicolor backlight.
I have experience with Z80 in that I used to program apps in assembly
for TI calculators, and I completed a 1 year basic course in C++ (before
deciding i wanted to study medicine), which I used to program some other
devices in plain C. I have absolutely no knowledge of programming for
Windows or Linux (except in visual basic, a long long time ago ;)). I've
also done some PHP projects, but if there's something i can't stand it's
designing web pages with both compatibility and standards compliance in
mind.
Currently I'm trying to develop a display-settings detection tool which
works via loadram, but somehow it keeps crashing s1mulator without any
error message at all.
The coming 2 weeks I'll be pretty busy making sure i make it to the
second year of my study, but after that i'm all yours. You can find me
on the IRC channel pretty often, my nick there is 'Remboooo' (or 'rem').
Cheers! :)
